Classes take place each Friday from 6.00pm to 9.00pm term time only. 11+ practice exam classes are undertaken during the summer holidays (year 5 students only). These are tailored booster classes conducted under exam conditions, to build more confidence for children at the crucial time prior to the exams.
In year 3 children will learn Maths, English and an introduction to Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning.
In Maths children will focus on consolidating basic number skills including times-tables. This is important as they form the foundation for a large majority of the work the children will cover within the year. Children will begin to use column addition and subtraction of three- digit numbers, as well as learning about multiplication and division.
They will also cover fractions of quantities, equivalent fractions, angles, parallel and perpendicular lines, area, perimeter and shape.
In English, children will work on the spelling patterns, phonics and more emphasis on understanding and learning the spelling rules, as well as attention to prefixes and suffixes. Children will also develop their understanding of comprehension, inference skills and reading for meaning.

In addition to the year 3 syllabus, children in year 4 will learn Maths, English (including comprehension, spelling, punctuation and grammar), Verbal Reasoning and Non Verbal Reasoning.
In mathematics and English, the teachers will be aiming to ensure that your child knows and understands particular key skills. Apostrophes, commas, time tables and key spellings are just some of the things children in Year 4 are expected to use accurately.
Children will develop their knowledge of Verbal and Non Verbal reasoning techniques and build on what they were taught in Year 3 .
Verbal reasoning provide an assessment of an individual's ability to think, reason and solve problems in different ways. Non-verbal reasoning is all about spotting relationships and patterns between objects; using logic and deduction; and approaching questions methodically.

In year 5 children will learn Maths, English (Comprehension, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar), Verbal Reasoning, Non Verbal Reasoning and Exam Strategy.
We will work with your children to build full competency, fluency and initiative in core Mathematics and English skills, ensuring all bases are covered with exam technique and working under timed conditions. Children will build key Non-Verbal and Verbal Reasoning skills and grow in confidence and self-belief.
In maths, there is definitely an emphasis on fractions, decimals and percentages in this year. There is also an expectation that they will know all of the written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
In English, new punctuation is introduced such as hyphens, semi-colons and colons. There is a greater emphasis on grammar, for example using modal verbs (these are words like would, could, might and must).

In Year 6 children will be prepared for Key Stage 2 SATs and follow the national curriculum of learning set down by the government. Children are assessed weekly on Maths and English skills. All teachers will follow the national curriculum whilst also making their teaching personalised, exciting, creative and thematic.
In both maths and English, there are a wide range of expectations for the children.
For maths this includes things like simple algebra, missing angles in a range of shapes, and pie charts using percentages. In English the children are expected to understand how to use a full range of punctuation, to write with a wide variety of sentence structures, use powerful vocabulary and have generally accurate spelling of all words.
In addition to the preparation for the SATs children will be learning Science as a subject. This will also follow the national curriculum set out by the government.
